Get Rachel Bilson’s Wallet-Friendly Wedges! – UsMagazine.com

Posted by admin on December 27, 2011

We exchanged pictures back and forth: who made them, where can we get them, they’re the cutest things we’ve ever seen, etc. Usually Nicole will tell me Martin Margiela or See by Chloe, but this time these cute suede, ankle-tied, wedge heel booties belong to ZARA. And they’re $99!

The other day I was chatting with Rachel Bilson’s stylist, Nicole Chavez, about a pair of booties Rachel was wearing that we were obsessed with at the office.

These wedge ankle boots come in tan and black. What’s great about this type of boot is that you get some nice height, but it’s easier to walk in than a stiletto heel. They slim down a thicker ankle, giving you a nice line. They look great with leggings, skinnies – or even a flare! They’re also terrific with a long skirt or a shorter dress. Grab a pair at Zara.com.

Celebrity Short Cuts – UsMagazine.com

Posted by admin on December 24, 2011

By Sasha Charnin Morrison for UsMagazine.com. To read more of the Recessionista blog, click here.

A huge trend and an absolute must for this fall has got to be a pair of leather shorts. Do not be alarmed that you will look like Kurt Von Trapp from The Sound of Music in Lederhosen. Worn here by Rachel Bilson during NY Fashion Week, these hot knickers are rock-and-roll rebellious and selling out like mad.

Leather shorts can be had at all prices from the low end-H&M (pictured here, $30, hm.com for locations) to YSL. Try on a few pairs and see what works for you. You can find styles in both pleather and leather, which will obviously cost more. But there’s a wide range of prices out there to make everyone happy.

These shorts take the place of a miniskirt and make for a great companion to leggings. Mix the shorts with a bootie, but keep it all simple. Probably mixing a motorcycle jacket is not such a great idea, but adding an oversized boyfriend blazer and a nice t-shirt works. A beautiful printed blouse works here too. And keep in mind, your legs must be extremely toned as these can be fitted and tight.

We spotted them on the runways of Chloe, Hermes and YSL last spring. Then celebrities like Rihanna, Gwyneth Paltrow and Miley Cyrus started to pick it up, and a trend was born. Most shorts sold out and now they’re back by popular demand.

Recessionista Get Trenched – UsMagazine.com

Posted by admin on December 19, 2011

60% Cotton,

Check out who in Hollywood rocks the trench trend.

$88.00

While luxe Burberry trenches are divine, as are coats from London Fog, I would rather have this one instead of investing.

I always look at trench coats like I’ve never seen that style of coat before. Perhaps it’s the pecan color or the style, but for whatever reason I own close to eight trenches. I saw this one at The Gap recently and could not take my eyes off it. I love the cut, the fabric, the color…and the price — $88 — is just right!

Xs-XXL

I can’t enough of trench coats. I don’t know what it is, but I can’t just walk past them when I’m shopping.

High-quality woven cotton trench coat with topstitching throughout, lined.

PRODUCT DETAILS On cooler summer days, our soft and lightweight trench coat is sure to take the chill off without weighing you down. In the fall, this iconic style is a wardrobe staple you’ll turn to on a daily basis.

40% Nylon.

These coats are perfect for cool summer nights and work well as a compliment to a little dress during the day. I also love that this never goes out of style. So, say hello to number 9!

MacGibbon Out, Waight Keller In At Chloé

Posted by admin on December 14, 2011

Despite weeks of protestations to the contrary, Chloé announced today that Hannah MacGibbon, who has been creative director since 2008, is leaving the brand. Stepping into the role: Clare Waight Keller, the British-born designer who stepped down from Pringle of Scotland earlier this year. Waight Keller worked under Tom Ford at Gucci and helmed Ralph Lauren’s Purple Label menswear before arriving at Pringle, where she was credited with expanding the knit label into a full-fledged luxury brand. In particular, Tim Blanks commended her as “quietly iconoclastic,” and able to reach back into the archives while updating and modernizing the Pringle offerings. Waight Keller’s specialty is knitwear (in addition to her time at yarn-happy Pringle, she received an M.A. in fashion knits from the Royal College of Art) and craft. How will that translate at Chloé? In a statement, Waight Keller praised the label’s “beautiful sense of effortless femininity and vivacious sophistication that I look forward to continuing into the next era.”

One To Watch Heimstone

Posted by admin on December 12, 2011

Alix Petit perfected her knitwear expertise working for Michel Klein in Paris, but it wasn’t long before she wanted to design her own collection for women who crave beautiful, casual clothes not dictated by the season’s trends. Cue: Heimstone, the line she founded in 2006.

“I design whatever I feel like wearing; it’s very spur-of-the-moment,” Petit tells Style.com.

It’s an approach that seems to work well for the Paris-based designer. With the soft launch in 2006, she debuted bits and pieces: bracelets made from screws and nuts and bathing suits in vintage cottons. Friends instantly started buzzing about them and it was not long before she counted the likes of Uma Thurman as a customer. She has since set up a bricks-and-mortar shop in the heart of Paris’ Saint Germain, on Rue du Cherche-Midi, and sells her line at chic retail outlets like the Webster in Miami and Opening Ceremony.

For her Spring Dia collection, she’s done silhouettes and prints inspired by Sol LeWitt’s cube-obsession and Egon Schiele’s deformed torsos. The result is an eclectic cross section of sportswear and luxe pieces, like raffia knits, gold-coated lace pants and shorts, soft biker jackets, and a feathered skirt, all paired with suede sneakers. “They are for girls like me who prefer casual, comfortable footwear for the city,” she says.

Holly Go Lovely

Posted by admin on December 8, 2011

MaCoHa—no, it’s not some Manhattan neighborhood you’ve never heard of. It stands for the Malawi Council for the Handicapped, and it’s Holly Dunlap’s current cause célèbre and design collaborator. A little over two years ago, Dunlap discontinued her successful footwear and accessories line Hollywould and decamped to Africa. It was there that she met her Italian beau, who was building a school in Malawi, and decided to “trade one life in for another.” So she swapped the parties, manicures, and air conditioning in New York and Los Angeles for a 1984 Toyota Sprinter, no Internet, and the simple life.

Dunlap’s new label 4MaCoHa offers embroidered tunics ($95 to $150) and home goods ($65 to $595), which are all made from local Malawian cotton by MaCoHa’s disabled employees, who are deaf, blind, or have amputated limbs (the head patternmaker is a double amputee). At a preview for the label’s Resort launch collection yesterday, Dunlap explained that “because of witchcraft dogmas, people in Africa still think that if someone has a handicapped baby, then their family is cursed, and MaCoHa is about showing the country what [the] disabled can do.” Dunlap tried to stay true to traditional African designs (they’ve been making caftans since the seventies) and picked the bright color palette. She also added in a few personal references to the collection, like the hand-loomed rug that took over a week to make, which looks like the poster for 1960’s surf documentary The Endless Summer (Dunlap loves to hang ten). Dunlap’s goal is to create more employment opportunities for MaCoHa and to create a demand in the country for their own products instead of exporting everything. The MaCoHa artisans, who “were born smiling,” are enjoying their moment in the sun. “They look at themselves on the Web site and say, ‘That’s me!’,” Dunlap said. “They love a little bit of fame.”

Recessionista Giving the Finger – UsMagazine.com

Posted by admin on November 28, 2011

Two-finger rings are back like everything else from the 1980′s. There’s something so wonderfully badass about the style. I love these rings for the look as well as the protective factor, like you will want to kick someone’s butt to the curb.

The gold tone is oddly elegant, too. I also like the price: you cant beat $15! As always — the lovely gold tone can be worn with your wild new leather or denim for Fall. To add a soft touch, wear a lovely dainty chiffon tank or blouse to mix the hard with the soft. I even like mixing gold with silver, especially this Fall season.

PRODUCT DETAILS
Ring sizes are 6/7, 7/8.
$15.00
Rhodium plated metal

You can really wear these and no must enter only dingy apartments for terror that you ambition be “found out” that you’re wearing a duplicate.

I’m always green with envy each period she works out in something fashionable. I adore her wardrobe alternatives. I detest her closet choices. Here form sense always makes my tongue flop to the layer favor a Looney Toons role and my eyes across slightly.

The thing that kills me is that her shopping trips and the items her stylists plucks for her are so valuable ($2,700 Louis Vuitton Spicy Heels? Worn once, not discerned repeatedly. Balmain mouth-watering bandleader jacket for $6000+, Margiela dance ball sack $2500? Amazing merely immediately lacking ashore a breast carton!). I tin merely nightmare about owning always of those items. Until today.

Let’s face it: We all want all of those extraordinary clothes Beyonce has.
